Support a Community Benefits Agreement in the redevelopment process of JFK AirportRead the petition
We need your signature in the support of a Community Benefits Agreement written to ensure that our community’s concerns are heard and addressed, and that benefits be accrued to the affected residents. We must pressure the governor, PA and the developers to sign the Community Benefits Agreement so that it will be incorporated in the development process, monitored and enforced.
The planned $10 billion dollar renovation of John F. Kennedy Airport is expected to bring potential benefits and detriments to the surrounding communities. Sign the petition to support the proposed Community Benefits Agreement that calls for inclusiveness and accountability in the development process. We must come together as a unified community to ensure that the main purpose of economic development is to bring measurable, permanent improvements to the lives of affected residents.
Southeast Queens has historically been a neglected community that falls victim to the economic priorities of others in large-scale government economic development within its borders.
While the redevelopment project of John F. Kennedy Airport holds incredible potential to benefit surrounding neighborhoods and sets a goal of 30% utilization of MWBE contractors, no social and economic benefits will be materialized unless the voices and needs of the residents are heard and adhered to. We cannot wait for change to happen. We must make change happen.
We must pressure the governor, PA and developers to sign a Community Benefits Agreement that will promote and protect our community’s interests, and to not only ensure that a broad range of community concerns are heard and addressed but promises are made specific, legally binding and enforceable by the community.
The proposed Community Benefits Agreement calls for mitigations on negative environmental impact such as noise, pollutant emissions and an economic benefits package that will increase MWBE participation rate and create job opportunities with pre-apprenticeship program, non-construction training, targeted hiring, construction/ non-construction work, concessions, business development & assistance and job readiness & training programs for eligible residents of the Project Impact Area.
Show the governor, PA and developers that we will no longer stand to be excluded from the development process, and that we as a community demand our concerns be addresses and benefits be accrued. Your support will empower the community and help the Community Benefits Agreement to be secured, incorporated in the development process, monitored and enforced. Add your name to the petition and spread the word!
